Desolation Row Revisited
poetry

I wanna be an actor
So I can lie around in bed
Just like my savior Jesus
And the children that he fed
You know Jesus was an actor
And he was famous long ago
For playing electric violin
On Desolation Row
I wanna be a doctor
So I can look in peoples eyes
Just like Sister Mary Magdalene
And her holy thunder thighs
You know Mary was a doctor
And she would heal all ills and woe
In the quiet village of Bethlehem
On Desolation Row
I wanna be a salesman
So I can handle jewels and gems
Just like good old Saint Augustine
And the New Jerusalem
You know Auggie was a salesman
Of a church you do not know
One where Jesus never came
To Desolation Row
I wanna be the governor
So I can lie right to your face
Like the holy angel Metatron
In the arid desert waste
You know Metatron recorded
Deeds of all; both friend and foe
Its the only story you will hear
On Desolation Row
